Relation to the field
The research crosses archival practice, agent theory, and artistic practice. The central question — how a cognitive system distributes memory across sessions without losing coherence — appears first as an engineering problem, then as an aesthetic and political question: who decides what survives?
For the master’s research, this connects to systems art and to what Zygmunt Bauman called liquidity: structures that cannot sustain form long enough to be inhabited.
Public case
In 2026, agent platforms began naming cross-session memory consolidation as 'dreaming' — a process that happens outside the work stream, during idle windows. The name is a cultural act, not only a technical one: positioning memory as an unconscious process is an editorial choice about what agents 'are' and what they do when nobody is watching.
Machine Dream Lab does not compete with that naming. It uses it as a starting point to ask: what does a system reveal when it records what it chose to forget?
